SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roger L. Veatch of Thomasville, North
4Carolina, formerly of Oak Park, who passed away on June 10,
52014; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Roger Veatch was born on July 16, 1923 in Chicago
7to Roy and Mabel (nee Meyer) Veatch; he graduated from Oak Park
8and River Forest High School in 1941 and married Margery Ann
9Jones in 1945; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roger Veatch entered the United States Army in
111945 and worked on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, New
12Mexico; after World War II, he finished his master's degree in
13biochemistry at the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked
14at the Hines Veterans Administration Medical Center in nuclear
15medicine for 30 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Roger Veatch was active at First United Church of
17Oak Park and in the Community Renewal Chorus; he delivered
18Meals on Wheels to seniors in the community into his 70s; in
191998, he and his wife retired to North Carolina, where they
20were active members of Congregational United Church of Christ
21in Greensboro; and

1    WHEREAS, Roger Veatch was preceded in death by his
2daughter-in-law, Alanna Connors; his brother, David; and his
3brother-in-law, Edwin Bast; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Roger Veatch is survived by his wife of 69 years,
5Margery; his sister-in-law, Mariam Veatch; his sister, Anita
6Bast; his children, Kathryn (William) Ksander, Elizabeth
7Hopkins, Margaret Veatch, and Phillip Veatch; his 4
8grandchildren, Wendy Smith, Peter Ksander (Miranda Hardy),
9David Ksander (Natalie Ruttan-Stack), and Roy Veatch; and one
10great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Roger L. Veatch, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Roger Veatch as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
