SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nick J. Hamilos of Glen Carbon, who
4passed away on May 10, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was born on October 22, 1921 in St.
6Louis, Missouri; he married Leona Mateyka on June 21, 1947 at
7the old St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos served in the United States Army Air
9Forces from 1942 to 1945 in the European and Middle Eastern
10Theatres; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After his stint in the military, Nick Hamilos went
12back to Madison and joined his brother, Chris, in his meat
13business, becoming co-owner of Hamilos Brothers Meat Company;
14they worked together for 47 years until retiring after selling
15their business; he was the creator of "Nick's" seasoning, which
16is still sold today; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was a charter member of the Glen
18Carbon Kiwanis Club, which started on September 10, 1953; he
19was also a trustee of the Glen Carbon Fire District, a 20-year
20member of the Edwardsville Unit 7 School Board, and a 20-year
21member of the Madison County Board; and

1    WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was a member of St. Cecilia's
2Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, the Glen Carbon American
3Legion, and St. Cecilia's Knights of Columbus; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was preceded in death by his parents,
5Theodore and Erna (nee Crider) Hamilos; 3 brothers, Chris,
6William, and Angelo; and a sister, Helen Toundas; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos is survived by his wife, Leona; a
8daughter, Diane (Joe) Semanisin; a son, Dan (Sue) Hamilos; 5
9grandchildren, Vicki (Tom) Fuhrhop, Mike (Kim) Semanisin,
10Andrea Hamilos, Paul (Heather) Hamilos, and Allison Hamilos; 2
11great-grandchildren, Brett and Nicole Conway; and a sister,
12Katherine Butkovich; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
15family and friends, mourn the passing of Nick J. Hamilos; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Nick Hamilos as an expression of our
19sympathy.
