SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nick J. Hamilos of Glen Carbon, who passed away on May 10, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was born on October 22, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri; he married Leona Mateyka on June 21, 1947 at the old St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville; and

WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos served in the United States Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1945 in the European and Middle Eastern Theatres; and

WHEREAS, After his stint in the military, Nick Hamilos went back to Madison and joined his brother, Chris, in his meat business, becoming co-owner of Hamilos Brothers Meat Company; they worked together for 47 years until retiring after selling their business; he was the creator of "Nick's" seasoning, which is still sold today; and

WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was a charter member of the Glen Carbon Kiwanis Club, which started on September 10, 1953; he was also a trustee of the Glen Carbon Fire District, a 20-year member of the Edwardsville Unit 7 School Board, and a 20-year member of the Madison County Board; and

WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, the Glen Carbon American Legion, and St. Cecilia's Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Erna (nee Crider) Hamilos; 3 brothers, Chris, William, and Angelo; and a sister, Helen Toundas; and

WHEREAS, Nick Hamilos is survived by his wife, Leona; a daughter, Diane (Joe) Semanisin; a son, Dan (Sue) Hamilos; 5 grandchildren, Vicki (Tom) Fuhrhop, Mike (Kim) Semanisin, Andrea Hamilos, Paul (Heather) Hamilos, and Allison Hamilos; 2 great-grandchildren, Brett and Nicole Conway; and a sister, Katherine Butkovich; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Nick J. Hamilos; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nick Hamilos as an expression of our sympathy.
