HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate David Lee Eanes on the occasion of his retirement from Thornridge High School in Dolton; and

WHEREAS, David Eanes teaches Beginning Band, Jr. Varsity Band, Varsity Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Flag Team, Pit Band, and Pep Band for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of David Eanes, Thornridge High School students have had opportunities to participate in competitions all over the world, taking first place in many of them; he practices with them day and night and has instilled a strong work ethic that helps them master their art and obtain scholarships to attend prestigious colleges and universities worldwide; in the past 5 years, 87 of his students have won full-college music scholarships; and

WHEREAS, David Eanes often works extra hours to give his students the edge they need to succeed; after teaching summer school, he holds a leadership camp each July for all students wishing to become leaders in the music program; in the fall he spends almost every night helping his bands prepare for auditions and festivals such as the Illinois Music Education Association Allstate Convention, the Illinois High School Association Solo Ensemble, and the SICA Band Festival; he holds instrumental clinics and organizes a Market Day Fundraiser; and

WHEREAS, David Eanes worked at Mendel Catholic High School for 10 years before taking a position at Thornridge High School where he has been for the last 21 years; and

WHEREAS, David Eanes earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Grambling State University and his Master of Arts in Music Education from the VanderCook College of Music; and

WHEREAS, Due to David Eanes' many years of outstanding service to his students, the Student Board of Education is working to rename a portion of Thornridge High School in his honor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate David Lee Eanes on his retirement from Thornridge High School and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to David Eanes as an expression of our esteem and respect.
