HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Hadiya Z. Pendleton of Chicago, who passed away on January 29, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton was born on June 2, 1997, in Chicago to Cleopatra and Nathaniel Pendleton; she was a sophomore and honor student at King College Prep High School; and

WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton, along with the King College Prep Band, participated in the Presidential Inauguration Heritage Festival near Washington, D.C. for President Obama's second term; while in Washington, the band visited the Washington Monument and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial; and

WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton played on the volleyball team for her school; and

WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton dreamed of going to Northwestern University and talked about becoming a pharmacist, journalist, or a lawyer; and

WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton is survived by her mother and father and a host of friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Hadiya Pendleton, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hadiya Pendleton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
