HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Illinois Association of School Boards on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening public schools through local citizen control; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards is organized by member school boards as a private, not-for-profit corporation under the authority granted by Article 23 of the School Code; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards was founded 100 years ago in December 1913 by a group of 25 school board members meeting in Quincy; and

WHEREAS, Today, nearly 99% of the school boards in Illinois hold active membership; and

WHEREAS, Membership in the Illinois Association of School Boards also consists of active, associate, affiliate, honorary, and service associate classifications; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the Illinois Association of School Boards is excellence in local school governance in support of quality public education; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards's constitution provides that major policies be established by an annual Delegate Assembly and places governance in the hands of an elected board of directors; and

WHEREAS, A board of directors comprised of locally elected school board members has supervision, control, and direction of the affairs of the Illinois Association of School Boards; it implements the Association's policies or determines changes therein within the limits of the constitution and actively prosecutes its purposes; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Board's programs are designed to provide leadership, service, and advocacy for local school boards through professional development, governmental relations, executive searches, in-district services, policy development, information services, legal counsel, and many other services; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Illinois Association of School Boards on the 100th anniversary of its founding and wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Illinois Association of School Boards as an expression of our esteem and respect.
