HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Gregory Berk on the
4occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Wheaton Fire
5Department on May 31, 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gregory Berk has served in the fire service for 46
7years; he began his career with the Flossmoor Fire Department,
8where he served as Chief; in 2003, he became the Wheaton Fire
9Chief, where he has served for the past 10 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, While he has been very active in all facets of the
11fire service, Gregory Berk has been especially devoted to the
12areas of emergency medical services, emergency management, and
13training; as a testament to his devotion, he has been a
14licensed paramedic since 1974 and he has been an adjunct
15faculty member at Southern Illinois University; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Gregory Berk has been very
17active throughout the region and State with numerous committees
18and organizations; he was a past president of the Illinois
19Firefighters Association; he is a member of various State
20advisory boards with the Office of the State Fire Marshal and
21the Illinois Department of Public Health; he is a member of
22various regional boards/associations, including the DuPage

1Fire Chiefs Association, the Ducomm Executive Board, the DuPage
2Emergency Telephone Safety Board, the Starcom Radio Steering
3Committee, and the DuPage Mayors and Managers; he also served
4as the MABAS Division 12 Incident Management Team Chief liaison
5and was one of the founding Chiefs for the West Suburban Fire
6Rescue Alliance and Tri-City planning group; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gregory Berk serves as a model of hard work,
8integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
9Illinois; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate Gregory Berk on the occasion of his retirement
13and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and
14be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Gregory Berk as a symbol of our esteem and
17respect.
