HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Russ Slinkard on being the 2013 recipient of the Boy Scouts of America's Distinguished Citizen Award; and

WHEREAS, Russ Slinkard, began his service to his community with a successful career as a minister; he later worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company in marketing and public affairs, the First National Bank of Joliet, and Three Rivers Manufacturers Association; currently he serves as president & CEO of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry; under his vision and guidance, the chamber has celebrated and achieved significant growth and success; and

WHEREAS, Russ Slinkard has volunteered thousands of hours to community organizations including the United Way of Will County, where he has been board president, campaign chair, and a Board of Directors and Executive Committee member, the Center for Economic Development, where he has served as a charter board member for 11 years, and Silver Cross Hospital, where he has served for over 24 years and is on the hospital's board of trustees; and

WHEREAS, Russ Slinkard's commitment to others has been acknowledged numerous times throughout the years, the most recent award being the Sangmeister Medal of Excellence awarded by Silver Cross Hospital to a leading citizen recognized for outstanding contributions to the common good of society; and

WHEREAS, Russ Slinkard has been married to Sara for 25 years; they have 3 children, Brian, Lisa, and Regina, 2 step-daughters, Shannon and Shelby, 4 grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Russ Slinkard will be presented with the award at a ceremonial dinner to take place on June 19, 2013, in Joliet; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Russ Slinkard on being the 2013 recipient of the Boy Scouts of America's Distinguished Citizen Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Russ Slinkard as an expression of our esteem and respect.
