HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ethel Maria Baskin, who passed away on May 11, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Baskin was born on February 6, 1935 in Lake Charles, Louisiana; her parents were Charles Lee and Thelma Jean Scott; she married Thurman Evan Baskin in 1958; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Baskin attended high school and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in the early 1950s; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Baskin accepted Christ and attended the First Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Thomas; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Baskin will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and confidante who had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Baskin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thurman; and a grandson, Jermaine McDaniels; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Baskin is survived by her children, Charles (Jovi), Bobby, Patricia (Anthony), Thelma (Ivan), Cookie (Robert), and Gayle; 2 step-daughters, Karen and Lisa Walker; a godson, Stanley Ishmon; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her lifetime partner, Hayes Ricky Wilson; and many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Ethel Maria Baskin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ethel Baskin as an expression of our sympathy.
