SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/34-18.49 new

Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. Requires the Chicago Board of Education to approve a change to the name of a school building if a petition is filed with the board requesting a change to the school building's name and the petition is signed by at least 5,000 members of the community in which the building is located. Effective June 1, 2014.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 34-18.49 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/34-18.49 new)

Sec. 34-18.49. School building name change. The board shall approve a change to the name of a school building if a petition is filed with the board requesting a change to the school building's name and the petition is signed by at least 5,000 members of the community in which the building is located.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect June 1, 2014.
