1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 3-606.1 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-606.1)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-606.1)
7    Sec. 3-606.1. Retired members of the General Assembly. Upon
8receipt of a request from a retired member of the General
9Assembly, accompanied by the appropriate application and fee,
10the Secretary of State shall issue to such retired member
11plates bearing appropriate wording or abbreviations indicating
12that the holder is a retired member of the General Assembly.
13Such plates may be issued for a 2 year period beginning January
141st of each odd-numbered year and ending December 31st of the
15subsequent even-numbered year. Upon the death of a retired
16member who has been issued a retired member of the General
17Assembly plate, that member's surviving spouse shall be
18entitled to retain the plate so long as the surviving spouse is
19a resident of Illinois and transfers the registration to his or
20her name within 90 days of the death of the retired member.
21    "Retired member" means any individual who (a) has served as
22a member of the General Assembly for a minimum of 6 years, or
23(b) is 62 or older, has served as a member of the General

1Assembly for a minimum of 4 years, and retired prior to the
2convening of the 83rd General Assembly.
3    The fees and procedures relating to such plates for retired
4members of the General Assembly shall be the same as the fees
5and procedures applicable to personalized plates issued under
6this Code.

8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9becoming law.
