SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger Allen Ness of Newark, who passed away on August 10, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Roger Ness was born on November 29, 1950, in Morris; his parents were Harold and Elizabeth (Miner) Ness; he married Nancy (Knudson) on November 1, 1969 at the Platteville Lutheran Church; and

WHEREAS, Roger Ness was a graduate of Newark High School and the Aurora Barber College; he was employed as a barber for 40 years, having cut hair at the City Barbershop in Geneva and the Country Cousins Hair Place in Newark; he was famous among his customers for giving the fastest haircut around; and

WHEREAS, Roger Ness served on the Newark Village Board; he also served as the Mayor of Newark for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Roger Ness was a member of the Newark Lutheran Church and the Newark Fire Department; he had served as a coach with the Newark Little League and Pony League; in 2000, he became a member of the I.B.C.A. Hall of Fame for his dedication as scorekeeper with the Newark High School basketball team and games for over 23 years; he was also a member and volunteer with many other community organizations, committees, and projects; and

WHEREAS, Roger Ness was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cathy Ness-Severson; and

WHEREAS, Roger Ness is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Doug (Kristin) Ness and Tom (Crystal) Ness; and his grandchildren, Addison, Cohen, and Bryson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Roger Allen Ness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Ness as an expression of our sympathy.
