SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roger Allen Ness of Newark, who passed
4away on August 10, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Ness was born on November 29, 1950, in
6Morris; his parents were Harold and Elizabeth (Miner) Ness; he
7married Nancy (Knudson) on November 1, 1969 at the Platteville
8Lutheran Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Roger Ness was a graduate of Newark High School
10and the Aurora Barber College; he was employed as a barber for
1140 years, having cut hair at the City Barbershop in Geneva and
12the Country Cousins Hair Place in Newark; he was famous among
13his customers for giving the fastest haircut around; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Roger Ness served on the Newark Village Board; he
15also served as the Mayor of Newark for 20 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Roger Ness was a member of the Newark Lutheran
17Church and the Newark Fire Department; he had served as a coach
18with the Newark Little League and Pony League; in 2000, he
19became a member of the I.B.C.A. Hall of Fame for his dedication
20as scorekeeper with the Newark High School basketball team and
21games for over 23 years; he was also a member and volunteer

1with many other community organizations, committees, and
2projects; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Roger Ness was preceded in death by his parents
4and his sister, Cathy Ness-Severson; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Ness is survived by his wife, Nancy; his
6sons, Doug (Kristin) Ness and Tom (Crystal) Ness; and his
7grandchildren, Addison, Cohen, and Bryson; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family and friends, the passing of Roger Allen Ness; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Roger Ness as an expression of our
14sympathy.
