SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Allen of Chicago and Country Club Hills, who passed away on June 5, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on January 6 1935 to Earnest Allen and Mary Barnes in Magnolia, Mississippi; he was affectionately called "Johnnie Boy"; and

WHEREAS, He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Rose Hill Baptist Church in Magnolia; he later joined Metropolitan Baptist Church in Chicago and Friendship Baptist Church; he later relocated to Country Club Hills and joined Great Hope Baptist Missionary Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter L. Cook; he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Chairman of the Sick Committee, and as an usher; and

WHEREAS, He was educated in the Pike County, Mississippi school system; he received his Machinist certificate from Triton College in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, He and Christine Cook were married in 1952 and were blessed with 7 children; and

WHEREAS, He was a machine operator for 44 years at the Pyle National Company, retiring in 1977; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Martha; his grandchild, Quintin; and his great-grandchild, Donovan; and

WHEREAS, John Allen is survived by his loving wife, Christine; his daughters, Carolyn (Leon) Melton, Jacqueline Ernestine, Cynthia (Michael Griffin), and Brenda; his sons, James and Andre; his 11 grandchildren; his 24 great-grandchildren; his 5 great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Octavia Cook, Beatrice Richards, and Etta Ruth Delaney; his brothers-in-law, Pastor Walter, Albert, and Reverend Charles Cook; his sisters-in-law, Juanita Tucker and Annie Cook; his devoted nephews, Lessie and Clinton Richards; his family at South Suburban Hospital that cared for him; and a host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John Allen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Allen as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
