SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Allen of Chicago and Country Club
4Hills, who passed away on June 5, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on January 6 1935 to Earnest Allen and
6Mary Barnes in Magnolia, Mississippi; he was affectionately
7called "Johnnie Boy"; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He accepted Christ at an early age and was
9baptized at the Rose Hill Baptist Church in Magnolia; he later
10joined Metropolitan Baptist Church in Chicago and Friendship
11Baptist Church; he later relocated to Country Club Hills and
12joined Great Hope Baptist Missionary Church under the
13leadership of Pastor Walter L. Cook; he served as Chairman of
14the Deacon Board, Chairman of the Sick Committee, and as an
15usher; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He was educated in the Pike County, Mississippi
17school system; he received his Machinist certificate from
18Triton College in Chicago; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He and Christine Cook were married in 1952 and
20were blessed with 7 children; and

1    WHEREAS, He was a machine operator for 44 years at the Pyle
2National Company, retiring in 1977; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
4sister, Martha; his grandchild, Quintin; and his
5great-grandchild, Donovan; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Allen is survived by his loving wife,
7Christine; his daughters, Carolyn (Leon) Melton, Jacqueline
8Ernestine, Cynthia (Michael Griffin), and Brenda; his sons,
9James and Andre; his 11 grandchildren; his 24
10great-grandchildren; his 5 great-great-grandchildren; his
11sisters, Octavia Cook, Beatrice Richards, and Etta Ruth
12Delaney; his brothers-in-law, Pastor Walter, Albert, and
13Reverend Charles Cook; his sisters-in-law, Juanita Tucker and
14Annie Cook; his devoted nephews, Lessie and Clinton Richards;
15his family at South Suburban Hospital that cared for him; and a
16host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of John Allen; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of John Allen as a symbol of our
