SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard DeVereaux Vanek, a longtime resident of Oak Park, who passed away on April 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago; he was a fixture in St. Catherine-St. Lucy Parish and served the village as an election judge and a Republican precinct captain; and

WHEREAS, He often held court on his front steps and invited any and all to imbibe in a drink and friendly banter; and

WHEREAS, Family and friends say they will remember his quick wit, contagious laughter, and huge smile, that he died an honest and devoted family man, who will always be remembered as one of the good ones; and

WHEREAS, Richard Vanek is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan; his children, Charles (Jenifer), Victor (Kathleen), Laura (Brooks) Blevins, Adam (Bonnie), and Amanda (Matthew) Walton; and his grandchildren Tess, Aaron, Kevin, Leah, Mary, Mildred, William, Charles, Hugh, Leo, and Ellie; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Richard Vanek; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Vanek as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
