SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald A. Jacoby of Alton, who passed away on May 22, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on April 11, 1927 in Alton, the son of Phillip and Ruth (Herrmann) Jacoby; he married the former Jacqueline A. "Jackie" Olsby on June 21, 1950; and

WHEREAS, He attended Alton High School and Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri; he belonged to the College Avenue Presbyterian Church for 60 years and served as a trustee, deacon, and elder; he was involved in scouting and the men's breakfast at church as well; and

WHEREAS, After high school he served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate and Corpsman; and

WHEREAS, He lived in the Alton area all his life; he was the president and co-owner, with his cousin Jack Jacoby, of Jacoby Furniture in Alton for 48 years; after the closing of the store, they donated the building and it is now the Jacoby Arts Center; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his son, Stephen Jacoby; and his brother, Monte Jacoby; and

WHEREAS, Donald Jacoby is survived by his son, Scott A. Jacoby; his cousin, Jack Jacoby; his sister-in-law, Dolly Olsby; and his special friend, Jan Hines; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Donald Jacoby; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Jacoby as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
