SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Joseph Francis Anlauf of Palos Verdes
4 Estates, California, formerly of Oak Park and Chicago, who
5 passed away on January 31, 2010; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf was born on September 28, 1923, and
7 raised in Chicago; his parents were Joseph Francis and Mary
8 Veronica Regan Anlauf; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf graduated from Fenwick High School
10 in Oak Park and attended Providence College in Providence,
11 Rhode Island, on scholarship before enlisting in the United
12 States Navy; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf served with distinction as a member
14 of the United States Navy in World War II from July 1943 to
15 June 1946; as a member of UDT 18, he received the Bronze Star
16 for operations in Balikpapan, Borneo; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf began his career in consumer
18 electronics with the Philco Corporation; he ended his career 50
19 years later as the National Executive Director of the
20 Associated Volume Buyers (AVB); and

1     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf was named Humanitarian of the Year
2 by the City of Hope in 1988; he devoted his life to Catholic
3 programs and services and was a long-time member of the St.
4 Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf was an avid sports fan; although he
6 lived in California, he continued to support the Chicago sports
7 teams and the University of Notre Dame football team; he also
8 enjoyed March Madness and the various Bowl games; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf is preceded in death by his parents;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, Joseph Anlauf is survived by his wife, Therese R.
12 Longley Anlauf; he was the father of Christine A. Sabatino,
13 Celeste Anlauf, Sally A. Smith, Joseph K. Anlauf, and Julie A.
14 Wade, and step-father to Laura Longley, James H. Longley, Sarah
15 L. (Illinois State Senator Chris) Lauzen, Stephen R. Longley,
16 Martha L. Witenberg, and Hal M. Longley; he was the grandfather
17 of 20 grandchildren; he is also survived by his sister, Alice
18 Suzanne Anlauf Goodreau, and his many sons-in-law,
19 daughters-in-law, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
22 his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Francis Anlauf;

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Joseph Anlauf as an expression of
4 our sympathy.
