SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Charles E. Runkel of Springfield and
4 formerly of Jacksonville, who passed away on March 27, 2010;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Charles Runkel was born May 14, 1930, in
7 Jacksonville, the son of Fred L. and Beulah Petefish Runkel; he
8 married Nancy C. Due on July 18, 1953, in Jacksonville; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Runkel was a 1950 graduate of Jacksonville
10 High School and attended Illinois College; he was a retired Lt.
11 Detective, serving 27 years with the Illinois State Police; he
12 also served three years with the Illinois National Guard; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church
14 in Jacksonville, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 41, the
15 Illinois Police Association, and he was a founding member and
16 former director of the Illinois State Police Credit Union; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He was a longtime dedicated Mason and was a member
18 of Harmony Lodge #3 AF & AM, a past master of Jacksonville
19 Lodge #570 AF & AM, Jacksonville Chapter #3 RAM, Jacksonville
20 Council #5 CM, Hospitaller Commandery #31 KT, Scottish Rite
21 Valley of Springfield, and Ansar Shrine; he was an avid bowler

1 participating in many leagues; he was devoted to the Boy Scout
2 program and its ideals, and formerly served as an assistant
3 scoutmaster with Scout Troop 107 in Jacksonville; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Charles Runkel is survived by his wife, Nancy; his
5 three children, Gehr Runkel (wife, Pamela), Chris Shafer
6 (husband, Stephen), and Eric Runkel (wife, Rhonda); his six
7 grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren; and his sister;
8 therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends, the passing of Charles Runkel; and be
12 it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Charles Runkel as a symbol of our
15 sincere sympathy.
