SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Curtis L. Johnston of Sesser, who passed
4 away on February 23, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston was born on May 15, 1945, in
6 Whittington; he was the son of Harley and Nina (Rea) Johnston;
7 he married Lowanda (Hunt) Johnston on July 28, 1965; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston was retired from Chester Mental
9 Health after many years of dedicated service; he also served as
10 a captain and fireman in the Sesser Fire Protection District
11 for 24 years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston served as chairman of the Sesser
13 Fire Protection District and the Sesser Library Board; he was a
14 board member for the Giving Tree Fund in Sesser and the Modern
15 Woodmen of America Camp 2966; he was also a member of the
16 Franklin County Democrat Association, the Southern Illinois
17 Coal Belt Association, and the Tazewell County Country Music
18 Club; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston was a member of the Grace
20 Awakening Church in Benton; and

1     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston was instrumental in the formation
2 and passage of Shib's Law, which protects firefighters as they
3 work on roadways and interstate highways; he also was very
4 instrumental in purchasing 3 pieces of fire equipment for his
5 fire station; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston was an avid Democrat who enjoyed
7 working for several candidates in many elections; following his
8 retirement, he enjoyed mowing lawns, golfing, fishing trips,
9 being outdoors, and playing and listening to country music; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston was preceded in death by his
11 parents and his brother, Everett Dale Johnston; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Curtis Johnston is survived by his wife; his
13 children, Kim and Raymond Scott; his grandchildren, Raylin
14 Scott and Cody Scott; his special niece, Tammy Priedis, and her
15 family; and his special nephew, James Johnston; therefore, be
16 it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 his family and friends, the passing of Curtis L. Johnston; and
20 be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
