SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bernice E. Gelden of Lake Villa, who passed away on February 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, She was born March 30, 1915 in Waukegan, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Nauta) Sarvella, living most of her life in Lake Villa; and

WHEREAS, Bernice was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waukegan and the Royal Neighbors of America in Antioch; and

WHEREAS, She retired in 1977 from the Antioch High School cafeteria where she was known as "Dot"; on November 11, 1934 she married Harold H. Gelden in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her infant son, James; her son, John (the late Donna Mae); her son, Harold A.; and her sister, Helen Belec; and

WHEREAS, Bernice Gelden is survived by her daughter, Shirley (James) Barnstable and her son, William (Dawn) Gelden; her 13 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; and her five great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Bernice Gelden; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernice Gelden as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
