SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were saddened to learn of the death of Richard S. "Dick" Clarke, who passed away on January 16, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Dick was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 23, 1034, the first born of Jesse Edward Clarke and Sarah Elizabeth Pilkerton and was the eldest of eight children; and

WHEREAS, Dick married his wife, Connie, in 1956, and had three children; Stuart, Stephen, and Susan; and

WHEREAS, Dick trained to be a teacher at Illinois State Normal, and subsequently worked as a science educator, industrial engineer, manufacturing executive, salesman, consultant, and entrepreneur; and

WHEREAS, Dick also wrote for a science encyclopedia, was a science fair director, a violinist, a gymnast in a traveling circus, and a poet; and

WHEREAS, Dick was a very religious and spiritual man, as well as a devout Catholic for the last sixty-three years, teaching CCD at St. Margaret Mary for many years; and

WHEREAS, Dick was a devoted father to each of his children, and was deeply saddened by the loss of his daughter, Susan, at the age of sixteen; and

WHEREAS, Richard S. "Dick" Clarke is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Connie, nee Koga; his devoted children, Stewart (Mary Margaret) and Stephen J. (Renee); and his grandchildren, Dustin, Steven Ray, Nikita, and Cheyanne Rose; he was the fond brother of David (Joy), Rose Harbour, Bonnie (late Steven) Kingsbury, Debbie (Gerry) del Junco, the late Betty Jean (late John) Schultz, Ginny (Jim) Betts, and Phillip Clarke; and the brother-in-law of Maurice (Mary) Koga; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Richard S. "Dick" Clarke; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard S. "Dick" Clarke as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
