SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Charles William Eugene Simmons of East
4 Alton, who passed away on February 12, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born November 17, 1923, in Carryville,
6 Arkansas, the son of William and Nellie (Smith) Simmons;
7 Charles had three older brothers, three older sisters, three
8 younger brothers, one younger sister and a twin sister; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army during World
10 War II; after the war he worked at Laclede Steel in Alton and
11 was also a self-employed homebuilder; he married the former
12 Vonda McGee on February 6, 1946, in St. Louis; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his four brothers,
14 Richard, Lucas, Louie, and Luther; and his three sisters, Lena
15 Atchison, Mahala James, and Orangie Todd; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Charles Simmons is survived by his wife, Vonda;
17 his four daughters and two sons; Lavon Rea, William Simmons and
18 his wife, Carolyn, Sandra Neal, Sherry Simmons, M.D., Valerie
19 Payne and her husband, the Reverend Gary Payne, and John
20 Simmons and his wife, Jayne; his 18 grandchildren and 15
21 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Bill Simmons and his

1 wife, Lettie, and David Simmons and his wife, Shirley; and his
2 two sisters, his twin, Charlene Sitzes, and Ruth Dowd and her
3 husband, James "Jim" Dowd; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6 his family and friends, the passing of Charles Simmons; and be
7 it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Charles Simmons as a symbol of our
10 sincere sympathy.
