SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Anton John Valukas; and

WHEREAS, Anton Valukas had a long and distinguished career in law; he began his law career as an attorney for the Commercial Union Insurance Company, where he worked for 38 years; he also managed his own law office; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, Anton Valukas was appointed to serve in the Cook County Circuit Court; he served as a supervising judge of pretrial services and was the head of pretrial mediation from 1987 until his retirement from the bench in 1993; following his retirement, he began a new career handling private mediation; and

WHEREAS, Anton Valukas served as the Illinois Supreme Court ADR coordinating committee vice chair from 1990 to 1994; he was also a regular lecturer at John Marshall Law School, the Kent College of Law, and the Judicial College in Reno, Nevada; and

WHEREAS, Anton Valukas is survived by his wife, Miki, whom he married on May 24, 1970; his sons, Anton R. Valukas, James Valukas, and Shawn Valukas; his daughter, Linda Blum; his 8 grandchildren; and his 10 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Anton John Valukas; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Anton Valukas as an expression of our sympathy.
