SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gloria Evelyn (Parnham) Carroll of East Peoria, who passed away on January 22, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Affectionately called "Sis" by her siblings and friends, Gloria was born on April 4, 1913, in East Peoria, the second daughter of Floyd and Ida Siebenthal Parnham; she attended Oak Grove School in Groveland until she went to work as a nanny; and

WHEREAS, In 1932, she married Gene Carroll, the love of her life for the next 58 years; Mrs. Carroll helped her husband launch Carroll Coal & Feed Co. in East Peoria in the late 1940s; she served as office manager for the business until it closed in the mid-1960s; and

WHEREAS, When Lincoln School opened in East Peoria in the early 1950s, she was active with its parent group; she also was active in Democratic Party politics for many years, serving as an election judge; she supported her husband in his career as an elected official in East Peoria in the 1950s and 1960s; and she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Monica's Church in East Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her son, Jimmy; her daughter-in-law, Cathy; and seven siblings; and

WHEREAS, She is survived by her son, Larry; her two granddaughters; and her great-grandson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Gloria Carroll; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gloria Carroll as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
