SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gail Bivin; and

WHEREAS, Gail Bivin was a well-known entrepreneur in her community; she opened her first store in Barrington in 1993; she then moved to Naperville in 1996 after being drawn to the growing development along the city's Riverwalk; in 1996, she opened the Canterbury Shoppe, a downtown boutique known for selling Naperville-centric items; in 2005, she acquired a neighboring shop and expanded her store by 1,100 square feet; and

WHEREAS, Gail Bivin was a former employee of Kraft Foods; she also helped raised money and served on the board of Little Friends, a Naperville organization for children with developmental disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Gail Bivin was the recipient of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce 2007 Small Business of the Year award and the Naperville Jaycees Distinguished Service Award; and

WHEREAS, Gail Bivin is survived by her husband, Bob; her parents, Patrice and Malcolm Andrews; her stepdaughters, Stephanie Bivin and Allison Bivin; her sisters, Martha Hunt and Sara Conti; and her brother, Kyle Andrews; and

WHEREAS, Gail Bivin will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a warm and caring individual whose energy and compassion endeared her to everyone she met; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Gail Bivin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gail Bivin as an expression of our sympathy.
