SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Mary Vambaketes of Alton, who passed away
4 on October 19, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mary Vambaketes was born on May 3, 1930, in
6 Andros, Greece; she was the daughter of John and Irene
7 (Genisis) Lafakis; she married John George Vambaketes on
8 September 28, 1947, in Alton; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mary Vambaketes was a member of Sts. Constantine
10 and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Swansea, where she was very
11 active with the Philoptochos Society, a ladies organization
12 that performs philanthropic work for children, the elderly, and
13 the church; she also baked every Tuesday at the church for
14 fund-raising activities; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mary Vambaketes was a past president of the PTA;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mary Vambaketes was preceded in death by her
18 husband; her parents; and her brother, Louis Lafakis; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mary Vambaketes is survived by her daughter,
20 Stella Georgitsis and her husband, Ted; her son, Tony

1 Vambaketes and his wife, Peggy; her grandchildren, Mary, A.J.,
2 and John M. Vambaketes, Marianna Georgitsis, and Peter John
3 Georgitsis and his wife, Katie; her great-grandchildren, Teddy
4 and Ellianna Georgitsis, and Stella Mathews; her brothers,
5 James Lafakis and Gregory Lafakis; and her sisters, Billie
6 Yiannakakis, Angie Kefalas, and Catherine Skordos; therefore,
7 be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of Mary Vambaketes; and be
11 it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Mary Vambaketes as an expression of
14 our sympathy.
