SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Franklin Quetsch of Geneva, who passed away on January 14, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on November 13, 1933 in Oak Park; he graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School in 1952 and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, in 1956; he married his high-school sweetheart, Patricia Perrin on September 3, 1956, at St. Giles Catholic Church in Oak Park; and in 1959 he graduated from Chicago Kent Law School; and

WHEREAS, He practiced law in Chicago and the couple lived in Oak Park until 1963 when they moved to West Chicago; that year, he began working for the law firm of Gates Clancy in Geneva; in 1965, he joined the firm of Corrigan & MacKay in Wheaton; he was a successful trial lawyer, and became a partner several years later in the expanded firm of Corrigan & MacKay, Quetsch and O'Reilly; and

WHEREAS, He and Pat moved their family to Geneva in 1972; he was appointed a Kane County Court Associate Judge in 1975 and elected as a full judge in the 16th Circuit Court in 1976; he held the position until 1992, when he became an Illinois Appellate Court Justice in the Second District; he was appointed to the seat by his predecessor, Justice John Nickels, who was elected to the Illinois Supreme Court; and

WHEREAS, Following his retirement in 1994, Jim traveled extensively with his wife; among their destinations were South America, Israel, and several European countries including his favorite, Ireland; he was a member of the St. Charles Sportsmen's Club in Elburn for more than 20 years, shooting trap and skeet; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gertrude (Shea) and Leonard J. Quetsch; and his brothers, Leonard, William, and John; and

WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his brother, Richard; his sister, Gertrude; his children, Karen Quetsch, Martha Quetsch, Elizabeth Entile, Thomas (Patricia Seastrom Banbury) Quetsch, Paula (Vincent) Giuliano, and James (Jo Martin) Quetsch; his ten grandchildren, Natalie Entile, Phillip and Julie Andersen, Caroline Cagney, Paul, Marie, and Francesca Giuliano, Kyle and Casey Banbury, and Megan (Banbury) Mara; his one great-grandchild, Vincent Mara; and his beloved Vizsla, Maggie; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James Franklin Quetsch; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Franklin Quetsch as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
