SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Jack S. Mallory of Waukegan, who passed
4 away on June 16, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born in Peoria on April 23, 1927, and later
6 served his country in the United States Navy during World War
7 II, aboard the U.S.S. Piedmont; he received a Masters degree in
8 Education from Bradley University in Peoria; he was a member of
9 Bradley's 1950 College World Series baseball team; prior to his
10 teaching and coaching career, he played professional baseball
11 in the New York Yankees farm system; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He taught mathematics and coached in Washburn,
13 where he met his wife Patricia K. Logan; they were married
14 August 21, 1955 and moved to Peoria where he continued his
15 career at Woodruff High School; after moving to Waukegan in
16 1958, he was a math teacher, guidance counselor, and coach at
17 Waukegan High School; he coached football and basketball, but
18 is mostly recognized for coaching baseball for 46 years; as
19 head coach, Jack led American Legion and Waukegan High baseball
20 teams to four State finals, winning titles in 1969 and 1971;
21 and
 
22     WHEREAS, He retired from teaching in 1989, yet continued to

1 coach for Deerfield and Waukegan High Schools and he also
2 served on the Waukegan School Board; he received numerous
3 recognition for his achievements over the years, including Hall
4 of Fame awards from Waukegan High School, Waukegan Coaches,
5 Bradley University Athletics, Lake County High School Sports,
6 Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association, and Peoria
7 Woodruff High School; he was a longtime member of the Pitch and
8 Hit Club, and participated in many coaching clinics throughout
9 the Midwest; his greatest reward in coaching was seeing his
10 players and students go on to receive their own achievements;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was an avid outdoorsman who loved his many
13 fishing and duck hunting trips with friends and family; he was
14 a long-standing member of the infamous Breakfast Club; he
15 enjoyed volunteering at Ryerson Woods Forest Preserve as a
16 naturalist; he also loved to read, with a particular interest
17 in history; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert
19 Sr. and Blanche; and his brother, Herbert Jr.; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Jack Mallory is survived by his beloved wife of 53
21 years, Patricia (aka "Dolly Madison"); his daughter, Cathryn
22 Mallory (Ronn Lewis, "favorite son-in-law"); his son, Michael
23 (Elizabeth); his son, Ken (fiancée, Kellie); his

1 granddaughter, Janella Mallory (Luis Vasquez); his two
2 great-grandchildren, Arian and Jalina; and his many friends
3 from near and far; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6 his family and friends, the passing of Jack Mallory; and be it
7 further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Jack S. Mallory as a symbol of our
10 sincere sympathy.
