SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Jane Haggerty of Skokie, who passed away on December 28, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty was raised in Rogers Park; she attended the Marywood Academy for Girls in Evanston; a product of the 1960s, she was swept up by the peace movement; she traveled to Nicaragua several times during and after college; and

WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty served as the housing action program director for the non-profit Rogers Park Community Council for 12 years; during her tenure as program director, she made it her job to ensure good living conditions for the poor of Rogers Park by pursuing slumlords in various court proceedings; and

WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty is survived by her mother, Jane, and her brother, John; and

WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a woman whose broad vision and inclusive sense of the world endeared her to everyone she met; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mary Jane Haggerty; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Jane Haggerty as an expression of our sympathy.
