SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald James Landsverk of Wadsworth, who passed away on May 9, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Donald Landsverk spent his early years growing up around the Green Bay, Wisconsin area; he moved to California in the early 1950s; he then relocated to North Chicago in 1959, where he met and married his wife Mavis in 1960; and

WHEREAS, In 1961, Donald Landsverk started Jack-Son Auto Sales Inc. in Waukegan, where he served as President until 2008; in 1970, he was the very first car dealer to move from the lakefront downtown car dealer area to Green Bay Road, where Waukegan's car dealer row is currently located; his dealership was originally located at the lakefront on Sheridan Road on the curve just south of Belvedere Road; he was a Simca dealer in 1970 and was Waukegan's Subaru dealer; he was also the Rupp snowmobile, mini-bike, and go-cart dealer in Waukegan from 1971 to 1972; his 48 years of hard work and many achievements made him Lake County's oldest and largest used car dealer; and

WHEREAS, Donald Landsverk and former Waukegan Mayor Sabonjian were featured together several times in the Waukegan News Sun for their mutual love of toys and various promotions; the pair also was the first to cut the ribbon and take the first inaugural ride in Mr. Landsverk's 1926 Ford Model T Doctor's Coupe to celebrate the new overpass built on Route 43; and

WHEREAS, Donald Landsverk was a member of the Waukegan Elks Lodge 702 for over 40 years; he was also a member of St Patrick's Church in Wadsworth; and

WHEREAS, Donald Landsverk was preceded in death by his mother, Doris; his father, Jack Landsverk; and his sons, Steven and Gregory Landsverk; and

WHEREAS, Donald Landsverk is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mavis (nee Johnson); his sons, Scott (Renee), Stuart (Julie), and Brian (Lori); his daughter, Connie (Bob) Besanson; his daughter-in-law, Suzanne (Steven); his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Eric, Jack, Zach, Sarah, Lily, Nathan Clark, Brett Clark, Addison Clark, Lisa Besanson, and Robert Besanson; his sister, Barbara (Paul) Uttormark; his uncle, Monte (Joyce) Landsverk; and his many great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Donald James Landsverk; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Landsverk as an expression of our sympathy.
