SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr. of Chicago, who passed away on April 26, 2009; and

WHEREAS, On November 9, 1957, in Washington D.C., Frank Selby Lee, Jr. was born to Dr. Marjorie Washington Lee and Frank Selby Lee, Sr.; in Washington, D.C., he attended Woodward School for Boys; his family later relocated to Illinois so that his parents could continue their graduate studies at the University of Illinois; he attended Urbana High School, where he excelled in sports and was a State champion hurdler; while in high school he received Jesus Christ as his personal savior; and

WHEREAS, He attended Illinois State University in Normal; his love of Christian fellowship inspired him to join the M.O.N.K. (short for "Men Of a New Kind") Christian brotherhood, and to seek Christian service as a summer missionary with Campus Crusade for Christ International; Frank was ordained as a minister at the Union Missionary Baptist Church of Bloomington/Normal by Reverend Dr. P. Bush; and

WHEREAS, For several years he served as the Campus Minister at Illinois State University under the leadership of Reverend Todd, under the support of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, and Reverend Dr. Curry, Pastor; on December 15, 1985, Frank Selby Lee and Rose Sharon Myatt were united in marriage; they later moved to Chicago with their first son, uniting with Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Fristoe; and

WHEREAS, In June of 1999, while pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree, he traveled to the Israeli West Bank to participate in an archeological dig; he also served as a faculty member of the Baptist General State Congress for 18 years, as a faculty member of the National Congress of Christian Education for 5 years, as an Old Testament instructor with Oral Roberts University, and was affiliated with the Baptist Pastor's Conference of Chicago and Vicinity; in 1997 he was first called to serve Kendrick Memorial Missionary Baptist Church as an interim Pastor; a year later, he was of duly elected by a large majority of the congregation to the Office of Pastor; and

WHEREAS, He and his wife renewed their wedding vows in April of 2009 with Chaplain John Munger presiding; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr., leaves his father, Frank S. Lee, Sr. (Ophelia); his wife, Rose M. Lee; his children, Frank III, Andrea, Jonathan, Rose, Selah, and Angelica; his aunts, Dr. Malitha Holbert, Carolyn Holts (Raymond), Gloria Royster, Evelyn McEachin, Alberta Littlejohn (Billy), and Jean Lee; his uncles, Thomas Lee (Betsy), Wellesly Washington Jr. (Jannie), Paul Washington (Andrea), and James Washington (Harriett); a host of cousins and other relatives; the Kendrick Memorial Missionary Baptist Church family; and many friends to cherish his memory; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Reverend Frank Selby Lee, Jr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
