SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Anthony A. Antoniou of Oak Brook, who passed away on April 14, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Antoniou was the son of Greek immigrants who traded African ivory before coming to America; and

WHEREAS, After performing naval duty during World War II, Anthony Antoniou graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1950; and

WHEREAS, In 1954, Anthony Antoniou founded what became the Anvan Companies, which began as a construction firm and expanded into real estate development and property management; his holdings included Chicago's Knickerbocker and Barclay Hotels and the Sears Building on State Street; he also developed extensive properties in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, including the Abbey Resort, and was responsible for the construction of the 54-hole Geneva National Golf Club in Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Antoniou is survived by his loving wife, Irene; his dear children, Andreas (Jean) and Vance (Constance); his dear grandchildren, Rena, Tony, Alexandra, Nickas, Andrea, Drew, and Aaron; and his dear sisters, Georgia Stamat, Ann Farmans, and Celestine Maroulakis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Anthony A. Antoniou; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Anthony Antoniou as an expression of our sympathy.
