SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Father Andrew J. Wahmhoff, O.S.B., of Aurora, who passed away April 10, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Father Andrew was the second of 12 children born to Carl Wahmhoff and Mildred (Hessling); Father Andrew was born December 19, 1931, and was baptized with the name of John at St. Margaret Church, Otsego, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, He followed his older brother to St. Meinrad Minor seminary in 1946; he professed vows as a monk of Marmion Abbey on August 10, 1953, taking the name of Andrew; Father Andrew was ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1958; and

WHEREAS, The list of jobs that Father Andrew faithfully and skillfully fulfilled for the abbey and academy communities over the years is endless; he is best remembered as a Latin master teacher of State champions for more than 47 years; a dormitory prefect and commandant of cadets; the "red farmer" of Christmas trees; bus driver; grass cutter; and player of golf, baseball, hockey, tennis, hand ball, and any other game that he could try; but his brother monks best remember him as a man of prayer, principles, and deep devotion and service to his Marmion community; and

WHEREAS, Father Andrew is survived by the members of his monastic community, his brothers and sisters and their spouses, and many nieces; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and members of his monastic community, the passing of Father Andrew Wahmhoff; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Father Andrew Wahmhoff as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
