SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Floyd E. Smith of Grayslake, who passed
4 away on April 1, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Floyd E. Smith was born December 12, 1923 in
6 McAlester, Oklahoma; he grew up in Oklahoma, became a fighter
7 pilot in the Army-Air Corp during World War II, and also served
8 in Korea and Vietnam, ultimately serving 27 years in the
9 military, retiring in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Following his retirement in 1970, he became
11 co-owner of the Outdoor Sportsman in Waukegan and retired in
12 1982; he was an accomplished gunsmith and a longtime member of
13 Lake County Baptist Church in Waukegan; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Joe
15 Smith; and his parents, Roy and Ila Smith; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Floyd Smith is survived by his children, Sharon
17 (Peter) Vasiljevich, Carolyn Redding, and Floyd E. (Ellen)
18 Smith Jr.; his grandchildren, Justin Vasiljevich, Jennifer
19 (Christopher) Williamson, Mistie Smith, Laura (Joseph) Ng,
20 Amanda Smith, and Natalie Smith; his great-grandchildren,
21 Mitchell, Emmalina, Benjamin, Sydney, Ethen, Kenneth, and

1 Savannah; his sisters, Verna Mae Fleming and Jeanne (Donald)
2 Eiland; and many loving nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5 his family and friends, the passing of Floyd Smith; and be it
6 further
 
7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to the family of Floyd Smith as a symbol of our
9 sincere sympathy.
