SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David L. Evans, who passed away on March 25, 2009; and

WHEREAS, David Evans was born in Chicago; he moved to Joliet, where he graduated from Joliet Township High School with the Class of 1960; he then attended the University of Illinois and graduated from DePaul University; and

WHEREAS, David Evans retired after a long career as an accountant with Commonwealth Edison; and

WHEREAS, David Evans was a member of numerous community groups; he was a member of the Grade School Board for over 30 years; he was a board member of Guardian Angel Home and the Unity Community Development Corporation; he was a representative of Will County Board District 8; he was chairman and a co-founder of the Black Pride Parade; he served as a coordinator for the Will County Primary and General Election Get-Out-To-Vote initiative; he was also a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, David Evans is survived by his wife, Rosie; his children, Debra L. Payton, Cathe R. (Daniel) Evans, David M. Evans, and Shellye N. Evans; his step-daughter, Dana (Carlos) Matlock; his 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of David L. Evans; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Evans as an expression of our sympathy.
