SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Howard Herbert "Tennessee" Hughes of
4Carlinville, who passed away on December 22, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Howard Hughes was born on October 4, 1935, in
6Elvins, Missouri; he was the son of Ernest P. and Glenda Harvey
7Hampton Hughes; he married Carole J. Hacke on October 12, 1963,
8in Carlinville; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Howard Hughes served his country with pride and
10distinction as a member of the United States Army, where he
11obtained the rank of Specialist; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Howard Hughes was employed with Bonney Forge in
13Carlinville until the plant closed; he was subsequently hired
14by the City of Carlinville to work in the public waterworks
15department, where he served until his retirement on December
1630, 1997; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Howard Hughes was the lead singer for the band
18"Country Alley Cats" for 15 years; he later sang for "Country
19Classics"; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Howard Hughes was preceded in death by his sister,

1Martha Lair; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Howard Hughes is survived by his wife; his son and
3daughter-in-law, Scott and Kim Hughes; his daughter and
4son-in-law, Keri and Mark Weller; his grandchildren, Senior
5Airman Joe (Jessica) Weller, Senior Airman Jerod (Maria)
6Weller, Ashlyn Weller (companion, Josh Harding), and Dakota
7Hughes; his 2 great-grandsons; his brothers and
8sisters-in-law, Lee and Evelyn Hughes, Paul and Brenda Hughes,
9and Frank and Faye Hampton; his sisters, Opal Bilbruck and Anna
10Marie Moore; his several step-brothers and step-sisters; and
11his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of Howard Herbert
15"Tennessee" Hughes; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Howard Hughes as an expression of
18our sympathy.
