SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Matthew D. Turcol, Mayor of Benld, who passed away on December 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on November 3, 1934 in Benld; he married Marjorie Grace Milcic on September 4, 1954; he was a retired IRS agent for the federal government and a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves; and

WHEREAS, He served as Mayor of Benld from April 1997 to the time of his passing; he served as Alderman for Benld from 1995 until 1997; he was a School Board Member for Community Unit School District No. 7 from 1993 to the time of his passing; he also served for 17 years prior to 1993 on the school board; and

WHEREAS, He was Secretary/Treasurer for the Croation Fraternal Union Lodge 217 of Benld; the President of Trustees for the Croation Fraternal Union of America based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a member of the OWLS; a member of the American Legion of Mt. Olive; a member of the advisory board of Heritage Manor in Gillespie and he called Bingo at Heritage Manor every month; he was a member of the Build Benld Committee and St. Joseph's Church in Benld; and

WHEREAS, He enjoyed playing bocce ball, bowling, and watching his grandchildren play sports; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Turcol; his mother, Virginia (Contratto) Turcol; and his wife, Marjorie Grace (Milcic) Turcol; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Turcol is survived by his daughter, Susan (Dennis) Tiburzi; his brother, Bob (Mary Lou) Turcol; and his grandchildren, Dennis Tiburzi, Dyllan Tiburzi, and Derrek Tiburzi; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and community, the passing of Mayor Matthew Turcol; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Matthew Turcol as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
