SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donna Jean Creel (nee, Brown) of Westmont, who passed away on November 23, 2010; and

WHEREAS, She was born on February 22, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Beatrice Irene and the late Osborn DeYoung Brown; she enjoyed an active and social childhood, excelling in school and hobbies such as cheerleading and skiing; she and her husband, Larry, were married in a Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan on September 7, 1968; and

WHEREAS, She had a way of positively impacting everyone's life she touched, whether as a family member, employee, colleague, or treasured friend; education and reading were ongoing passions in her professional and personal life; and

WHEREAS, She was a first, second, third, and fourth grade elementary teacher in Michigan; in Missouri, over a 25-year period, she served the Hazelwood School District in many capacities: as a first grade and reading teacher, instructional specialist, and reading consultant for the entire district; additionally, she enjoyed serving as an Adjunct Instructor for Webster University; and

WHEREAS, In Illinois, she displayed her strong leadership skills as both a consultant and book representative for the Scholastic Book Company; and

WHEREAS, She was the light of husband Larry's life and she was the cherished mother to Courtney (Creel) Blankenship and Colin Creel and daughter-in-law Krista Creel; the loving sister of G.L. Brown; and dear grandmother or "Nonna" to Isabella and Gibson Blankenship and Cole and Cooper Creel; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Donna Jean Creel; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donna Jean Creel as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
