SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of E. Beatrice Sam, lovingly known as
4"Madear", who passed away on December 4, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born on October 14, 1922 in New Orleans,
6Louisiana, to Andrew Ross and Fannie Bell Dunn Ross; and
 
7    WHEREAS, She moved to Chicago in 1943, where she met and
8married Harry Sam on March 6, 1948; she worked at Fred Harvey's
9and later worked at the Playboy Club until 1965; and
 
10    WHEREAS, She confessed Christ and was baptized; she
11attended St. Leo the Great Catholic Church until its closing
12and later became a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church; and
 
13    WHEREAS, She will be remembered for her love for her
14family, her open door for anyone in need, her love of soul food
15cooking, and her love for animals; and
 
16    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ethel
17Mae Robinson, Pearlyne A. Mitchell, and Annie Elizabeth
18Armstrong; and her children, Thomas E. Robinson, Gladys M.
19Bridges, and Michael K. Sam; and

1    WHEREAS, E. Beatrice Sam is survived by her husband, Harry;
2her sister, Hattie M. Nicks; her brother-in-law, John W. Sam;
3her children, Charles Robinson (Helen), Norma J. Sutton,
4Beverly J. Hammond, Joyce Y. Calvin (Barry), and Ronald E. Sam;
5her foster children, Andre Turner and Timothy Cannon; her
6grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her
7great-great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and a host
8of relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11her family and friends, the passing of E. Beatrice Sam; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of E. Beatrice Sam as a symbol of our
15sincere sympathy.
