SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Ellen Fischer of Godfrey, who passed
4away on November 16, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born November 26, 1923, in Blair, the
6daughter of David and Mona Starr (Ervin) Jones; she attended
7Blair Country School and Sparta High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, She attended Shurtleff College, where she met her
9future husband, Paul M. Fischer; they were married January 29,
101944, in Sparta; she and her husband lived in the Alton area
11for more than 50 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, She was a Girl Scout troop leader and past
13president of the River Bluffs Girl Scout Council, an active
14member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter GG, an active
15member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was a
16member of Ruth Circle, and served as an elder and a deacon, and
17a member and past president of the Alton Community Service
18League; she also was a member of the Ladies Golf League at
19Lockhaven Country Club, where she scored a hole-in-one on Hole
20Number 8 at age 79; she was an avid fisherwoman, and had a
21stump named in her honor at Wood Lake, Ely, Minnesota; and

1    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
2sister, Betty (Mrs. Eugene) Lane; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Fischer is survived by her husband of
466 years, Paul; her children, Thomas Paul (Cathy) Fischer, Ann
5Elisabeth (Dr. David) Athas, Dr. John William (Amy) Fischer,
6and Laura Jane Fischer; her grandchildren, Andrew Paul
7(Allegra) Fischer, Rosemary Margherita Fischer, Julie Ann
8Athas, Laura Elisabeth Athas, Nicholas Robert (Monica)
9Fischer, Craig Michael (Trisha) Fischer, and Kirstin Elizabeth
10Fischer; her great-grandchildren, Riley Lee Fischer, Grace
11Margaret Fischer, and James Michael Fischer; and her
12brother-in-law, Dr. Don A.(Sue) Fischer; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15her family and friends, the passing of Mary Ellen Fischer; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Mary Ellen Fischer as a symbol of
19our sincere sympathy.
