SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gregg John Davis of Naperville, who
4passed away on August 8, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born to Ruth and John Davis in October of
61937, in Scotia, Nebraska; he grew up in Strawberry Point,
7Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he
8met his wife of 50 years, Nancy (nee Humbert); they were
9married in July of 1960; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He began his 43 year career in the property
11casualty insurance business at a small mutual insurance company
12in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a claims adjuster; he progressed
13through a number of claim management positions with several
14companies before becoming employed by the Illinois Department
15of Insurance as a claim auditor in 1972, progressing to the
16position of Assistant Deputy Director; he moved to Naperville
17in 1984 to join Virginia Surety Insurance Company until his
18retirement in 2002 as an executive vice-president; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He was known by all as a kind, gentle, and
20generous man of integrity, always ready with some
21encouragement, a word of wisdom or just a listening ear; in his
22later years he developed an interest in good wine and a passion

1for gourmet cooking to the delight of his family and friends;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, After his retirement he became a volunteer at the
4Calvary Church Food Pantry/Clothes Closet ministry in downtown
5Naperville; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gregg Davis is survived by his wife, Nancy; their
7three daughters, Chrystal Gray, Sheryl (Michael) Stille, and
8Rachel Bobak; his 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren;
9his mother, Ruth Davis; his sisters, Sonya (the late Robert)
10Davis and Anita (Robert Fontenelle) McDonald; and a large
11gentle dog named Monet; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of Gregg John Davis; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Gregg John Davis as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
