SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal
4Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, who passed away on October 14,
52010 in Helmand province, Afghanistan; and
 
6    WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood graduated from Byron High
7School in 2009; and
 
8    WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood served his country with
9bravery and distinction as a rifleman assigned to the 3rd
10Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division, I
11Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, California; and
 
12    WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood earned the Purple Heart, the
13Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the
14Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Korean Defense
15Service Medal for his service; and
 
16    WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood was a member of the Boy
17Scouts; he was a black belt in tae kwon do; he also enjoyed
18athletics, four-wheeling, mudding in his truck, and shooting
19his shotgun; and
 
20    WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood is survived by his parents,

1Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; his fiancee, Hailey Patrick; his
2sister, Mikaela Montgomery; and his maternal grandparents,
3Donald and Mary Ernst; and
 
4    WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood's patriotism and courage
5will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow
6soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore,
7be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family and friends, the passing of Lance Corporal Alec E.
11Catherwood; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of LCpl. Alec Catherwood as an
14expression of our sympathy.
