SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marie Muzzarelli of Hickory Hills, who passed away on September 25, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli was born in Chicago; she met her future husband, Arnold Muzzarelli, by chance at a Catholic Youth Organization dance; Marie and her friends had been debating which dance they should attend when one of the girls suggested they go to whichever dance the first arriving bus would take them to; and

WHEREAS, After Marie Muzzarelli and her husband were married, the couple opened the Sabre Room at 8900 West 95th Street in Hickory Hills, in 1949; the couple toiled to bring a Las Vegas-type show palace to the Midwest, performing much of the hard labor themselves; after Arnold passed away in 1992, Marie continued to oversee the operation of the Sabre Room with the help of her family and her close friend, Art Golden; and

WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli and her husband were the recipients of numerous honors for their service to their community, including the Business Person of the Year Award from the Hickory Hills Chamber of Commerce in 2000; the City of Hickory Hills also designated Muzzarelli Drive in the city in honor of the couple's many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli enjoyed listening to the music of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Luciano Pavarotti; both Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett sang at the Sabre Room during the club's glory days; and

WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arnold; and

WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli is survived by her daughters, Janice and Yvonne; her son, Arnold Jr.; her 3 grandchildren; and her close friend, Art Golden; and

WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli, or Miss Marie as she was called by her closest friends and family, will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her for her warm and generous nature and charitable spirit; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Marie Muzzarelli; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marie Muzzarelli as an expression of our sympathy.
