SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marie Muzzarelli of Hickory Hills, who
4passed away on September 25, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli was born in Chicago; she met her
6future husband, Arnold Muzzarelli, by chance at a Catholic
7Youth Organization dance; Marie and her friends had been
8debating which dance they should attend when one of the girls
9suggested they go to whichever dance the first arriving bus
10would take them to; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After Marie Muzzarelli and her husband were
12married, the couple opened the Sabre Room at 8900 West 95th
13Street in Hickory Hills, in 1949; the couple toiled to bring a
14Las Vegas-type show palace to the Midwest, performing much of
15the hard labor themselves; after Arnold passed away in 1992,
16Marie continued to oversee the operation of the Sabre Room with
17the help of her family and her close friend, Art Golden; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli and her husband were the
19recipients of numerous honors for their service to their
20community, including the Business Person of the Year Award from
21the Hickory Hills Chamber of Commerce in 2000; the City of
22Hickory Hills also designated Muzzarelli Drive in the city in

1honor of the couple's many accomplishments; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli enjoyed listening to the music of
3Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Luciano Pavarotti; both Frank
4Sinatra and Tony Bennett sang at the Sabre Room during the
5club's glory days; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli was preceded in death by her
7loving husband, Arnold; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli is survived by her daughters,
9Janice and Yvonne; her son, Arnold Jr.; her 3 grandchildren;
10and her close friend, Art Golden; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marie Muzzarelli, or Miss Marie as she was called
12by her closest friends and family, will be remembered fondly by
13all who knew and loved her for her warm and generous nature and
14charitable spirit; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17her family and friends, the passing of Marie Muzzarelli; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Marie Muzzarelli as an expression of
