SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Peter W. Olroyd II of Carlinville, who
4 passed away on February 21, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born July 8, 1934, in Hillsboro, the son of
6 Peter W. Olroyd Sr. and Maymie Chaudoin; he married Joyce R.
7 (Schmidt) Olroyd on December 29, 1953, in Hillsboro; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He graduated from Hillsboro High School, with the
9 class of 1952; he was a Korean War veteran serving as 2nd Class
10 Petty Officer aboard the U.S.S. Cadmus; he was ordained as a
11 minister in 1978; he was pastor at Fayette Baptist Church in
12 rural Greenfield from 1977 to 1993; from 1994 to 2000 he served
13 churches in Dow, Charity Baptist Church in Carlinville, and
14 Carlinville Southern Baptist Church as an interim pastor; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mr. Olroyd joined the Carlinville Post Office in
16 1962 and served as a mail carrier until 1978, when he was
17 appointed assistant postmaster, serving in that capacity until
18 taking early retirement in 1989; he joined the Emmanuel Baptist
19 Church in Carlinville in 2002, where he served as a deacon,
20 taught Sunday school and was the director of Sunday school; and
21 he was selected as Bivocational Pastor of the Year in 1993; and

1     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Brent
2 Stayton; his five brothers; and his sister; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Peter Olroyd II is survived by his wife, Joyce R.
4 Olroyd; his children, Peter W. Olroyd III, Mark R. Olroyd
5 (Sondra), Lois Stayton, Stephen Olroyd (Peggy), and James
6 Olroyd (Tina); his fourteen grandchildren; his eleven
7 great-grandchildren; his three great-great-grandchildren; his
8 brother, George Hudelson (Norma); his sister, Josephine
9 Harris; and his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family and friends, the passing of Peter Olroyd II; and be
13 it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Peter Olroyd II as a symbol of our
16 sincere sympathy.
