SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Russell Christian of Grayslake, who
4passed away on August 8, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Russell Christian was born in Waukegan on
6September 5, 1928, to Stanley and Hazel (nee Kapheim)
7Christian; Russell graduated from Waukegan High School in 1946
8and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the 11th
9Airborne Division; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1965 he married Shirley Oilschlager; Russell
11was an accounting supervisor with the Frank G. Hough
12Co./International Harvester/Dresser Industries in Libertyville
13until his retirement in 1987; in 1989, he was elected to the
14position of Avon Township Supervisor, serving the residents of
15the Round Lake communities, Hainesville, Grayslake, Third
16Lake, and surrounding unincorporated areas in a position he
17served until 2006; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Russell was a Charter Member of the VFW Ron Hill
19Memorial Post 2245; he also served on the Grayslake High School
20Board of Education, was a Grayslake Village Trustee for 12
21years, was Executive Director of the Grayslake Chamber of
22Commerce, and was a Founding Member and Chairman of the

1Grayslake Economic Development Corporation; he was also active
2in the Grayslake Lions Club, the Military Order of the Cooties
3Pup Tent IL081, the American Legion Post 0659, and the St.
4Therese Janssen Foundation Board of Directors and was a Charter
5Member of the Grayslake Kiwanis Club; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Russell was a member of Shepherd of the Lakes
7Lutheran Church; he will be remembered by many in the Round
8Lake and Grayslake areas as "Santa", a role that gave him much
9pleasure; Russell loved life and enjoyed other people to the
10fullest; he was a devoted husband and a loving, proud father,
11grandfather, and great-grandfather; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Russell Christian was preceded in death by his
13parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Donald and
14Rosella Oilschlager; his brother, Richard Christian; and his
15grandson, Grant Russell Christian; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Russell Christian is survived by his wife,
17Shirley, whom he married 45 years ago on February 27 in
18Lindenhurst; his children, Karen (Kirk Smith) Christian Smith,
19John (Shelly) Christian, and Patti Gail (Jack Wells) Byers; his
20grandchildren, Lucas and Alec Christian, Benjamin and Molly
21Smith, Michael (Lisa) Lessard, and Joshua (Freddie) Johnson;
22and his two great-grandchildren in Florida; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3his family and friends, the passing of Russell Christian; and
4be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Russell Christian as a symbol of our
7sincere sympathy.
