SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Fishing is a vital industry in the State of Illinois, from the small lakes of downstate Illinois to Lake Michigan; the tourism created from fishing destinations like Carlyle Lake also generate revenue for the citizens of this State; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association has made Illinois the first state to have bass fishing officially sanctioned as a high school sport; the first official high school bass fishing State finals will held at Carlyle Lake in Carlyle, Illinois' largest in-land lake, on May 8 and 9, 2009; and

WHEREAS, In order to help promote the Bass Fishing Finals, the City of Carlyle is organizing the Bass Celebration & Fishing Expo, which will include fishing booths, food, and entertainment for the general public; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the month of May 2009 as High School Bass Fishing Month in the State of Illinois in recognition of the importance of bass fishing to the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bill Gruen, Carlyle City Administrator, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
