SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly recognizes that, in
3 the United States, 5.3 million people live with Alzheimer's
4 disease; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly recognizes that a
6 new individual is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease every 70
7 seconds; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly recognizes that
9 Alzheimer's disease is the seventh-leading cause of death for
10 all ages and the fifth-leading cause of death for those aged 65
11 and older; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly recognizes that
13 Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia and
14 over 210,000 Illinoisans live with Alzheimer's disease; the
15 number is expected to increase by 14% in the next 15 years; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The Illinois Alzheimer's Disease and Other
17 Related Dementia State Plan, mandated by Senate Joint
18 Resolution 43 of the 95th General Assembly, has been the
19 collaborative efforts of Alzheimer's researchers, academia,
20 physicians, healthcare providers, the Alzheimer's Disease
21 Assistance Centers, the Illinois Department of Public Health,

1 and other Illinois governmental units, state-wide advocacy
2 groups, and other stakeholders; and
 
3     WHEREAS, The recommended legislative and regulatory
4 initiatives, which are of great importance to those living with
5 Alzheimer's disease and related dementia, are now included in
6 the plan distributed to the Governor and the General Assembly;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
10 CONCURRING HEREIN, that we express our support for the Illinois
11 Alzheimer's Disease and Other Related Dementia State Plan as a
12 blueprint going forward in the fight against Alzheimer's
13 disease as we continue our response to this public health
14 crisis.
