SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

220 ILCS 5/13-710 new

Amends the Universal Telephone Service Protection Law of 1985 in the Public Utilities Act. Provides that wireless carriers shall prorate early termination fees over the term of a wireless consumer's contract. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning utilities.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding Section 13-710 as follows:

Sec. 13-710. Wireless early termination fees. Wireless carriers shall prorate early termination fees over the term of a wireless consumer's contract. As used in this Section, "early termination fees" means any charge, fee, or other cost that is levied, assessed, or otherwise imposed on a wireless consumer for rescinding a contract with the wireless carrier.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
