SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
35 ILCS 5/506.7 new

    Amends the Illinois Income Tax Act. Provides that a taxpayer who claims a child as a dependent for income tax purposes must indicate on the standard Illinois income tax form whether each of the taxpayer's dependent children has health care coverage. Provides that, if the taxpayer indicates that a dependent child does not have health care coverage, and the taxpayer meets the income eligibility standards for Medicaid, KidCare, or the Covering ALL KIDS Health Insurance Program, then the State Comptroller shall notify the taxpayer that the child may qualify for one or more of those programs. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning revenue.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Income Tax Act is amended by adding
5 Section 506.7 as follows:
 
6     (35 ILCS 5/506.7 new)
7     Sec. 506.7. Health insurance information. For tax years
8 beginning on or after January 1, 2010 and ending on or before
9 December 31, 2013, the Department shall print on its standard
10 individual income tax form a space to allow taxpayers with
11 dependent children to indicate whether the dependent child has
12 health care coverage. Each individual taxpayer who claims a
13 child as a dependent for income tax purposes must indicate on
14 the standard form whether each of the taxpayer's dependent
15 children has health care coverage. If the taxpayer indicates on
16 his or her income tax return that a dependent child does not
17 have health care coverage, and the taxpayer meets the income
18 eligibility standards for Medicaid, KidCare, or the Covering
19 ALL KIDS Health Insurance Program, then the State Comptroller
20 shall notify the taxpayer that the child may qualify for one or
21 more of those programs.
 
22     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
