HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Hattie Mary Walker on the occasion of her 100th birthday on March 25, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Walker was born on March 25, 1910, in Jackson, Mississippi to the union of Sims and Mary Hicks Crawford; when she was young, Hattie and her family moved to Indiana Harbor; the family eventually settled in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Walker was employed as a domestic for many years before starting a new career as a mental health aide with the Illinois State Pediatric Institute of Chicago, where she retired after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service; during this time, she was also a member of AFSCME and worked with special needs children; and

WHEREAS, After her retirement, Hattie Walker enjoyed traveling to many different places; she still looks back fondly on a cruise she took to Alaska; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Walker is a devout Roman Catholic; she is the longest living member of the Holy Angels Church and is an active member of the church's Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary; she is also a recipient of the Sister Theo Bowman Award; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Walker currently resides with her daughter, Betty Cade, in Southshore; she enjoys reading and watching Jeopardy every evening; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Walker met and married William "Bill" Walker; to their union, a son and 4 daughters were born; the couple also has 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Hattie Mary Walker on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hattie Walker as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
