HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Paul Osborne on the
4 occasion of the 40th anniversary of his ownership of the
5 Decatur Tribune in December of 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, In 1969, Paul Osborne received a call from a
7 friend who told him that the Decatur Tribune was for sale;
8 despite his lack of experience in the newspaper business, he
9 decided to purchase the business and become the editor and
10 publisher of the Decatur Tribune; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Under Paul Osborne's direction, the Decatur
12 Tribune has thrived, with thousands of loyal subscribers
13 reading his newspaper every day; the paper has also been the
14 recipient of numerous press awards; and
 
15     WHEREAS, In addition to his successful paper, Paul Osborne
16 also owns numerous other newspapers, an advertising agency, and
17 a television news production studio; he has been involved with
18 a daily television news program and radio broadcasting; he was
19 also elected to serve as Mayor of the City of Decatur in 2003;
20 he was then reelected in 2007 and served until his resignation
21 on June 1, 2008; and

1     WHEREAS, For the last 40 years, Paul Osborne and his
2 newspaper have served as invaluable sources of information and
3 insight for the people of the City of Decatur and the State of
4 Illinois; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Paul Osborne on the occasion of the 40th
8 anniversary of his ownership of the Decatur Tribune and wish
9 him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Paul Osborne as a symbol of our esteem and
13 respect.
