HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sue Helen Long, a longtime faithful member of Covenant Faith Church of God in Chicago, on her 100th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Sue Helen Long celebrated her 100th birthday on January 2, 2010; she was born on that date in 1910 in Clemson, South Carolina; and

WHEREAS, She is a community activist who has worked to beautify the community; she has worked with the Cub Scouts as a den mother, served on the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) board, and in the 1970s she was a missionary, visiting 17 islands with her church; and

WHEREAS, She is a founding member of the Covenant Faith/Emerald Avenue Church of God; she has served with the church for 73 years as a choir member, on the usher board, and working with small children in the nursery; and

WHEREAS, She is the mother of seven children, with five sons who served in the armed forces; and

WHEREAS, Her home has always been open to people in need; she is dearly loved by her church for her wisdom, insight, and humor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sue Helen Long on the centennial of her birth and wish her continued good health and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sue Helen Long as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
